Absorb the meaning, Invigorate the message, Resonate with the audience
Overview & Orientation
Welcome to the A-I-R Studio Workout
Professional announcing isn't about putting on an artificial "announcer voice." It's about taking words off a printed page and making them sound like spontaneous, authentic thoughts originating from inside of you. In this guided masterclass, AITA (Dr. T's AI Teaching Assistant) will coach you through the foundational A-I-R framework from Chapter 2 of On Air: Effective Announcing:
Baseline Read: Establish your natural starting point on the Campbell's Soup commercial.
Spontaneous Self-Critique: Develop your "director's ear" by analyzing your playback.
Absorb Drill (Ad-Lib): Internalize mental imagery with the script hidden.
Invigorate Drill (Digital Mirror): Use the live camera mirror for facial animation and the illusion of the first time ("Don't try. Just do.").
Resonate Coaching Takes: Direct your message to one specific human being across iterative coaching takes.
Polished Final Read: Synthesize A-I-R principles with unlimited freedom to re-record until satisfied.
Session Wrap-Up & Evaluation: Comprehensive dual-audio comparison (Step 1 vs. Step 6) and student reflection.
Studio Setup Note: When prompted, allow both Microphone and Camera access so AITA can evaluate your takes and activate the digital mirror drill.
1. Baseline Cold Read
Read the commercial copy below straight through at your normal conversational volume. Don't worry about perfection; we want to capture your natural starting point.
"On a cold winter day, there's nothing quite as delicious as a bowl of Campbell's Soup. The wonderful aroma... the delightful taste... mmm. Campbell's Soup really satisfies a winter hunger. And Campbell's is good for you! A hearty lunch of Campbell's Soup makes for a wholesome, balanced meal. So the next time you're looking for something good to warm up a cold winter day, remember Campbell's Soup. It's good food."

2. Spontaneous Self-Critique
Listen back to your baseline read using the player in Step 1. Developing your "director's ear" is essential to vocal growth.
When you hit record, speak directly into your microphone for about 45β60 seconds addressing these questions:
Did you sound like you were reading printed words, or sharing genuine thoughts?
How was your pacing and comfort level?
What specific phrases felt awkward, flat, or rushed?

3. Absorb Drill: Internalize & Ad-Lib
The script is now hidden. To Absorb meaning means translating printed words into vivid mental pictures before speaking.
Picture coming indoors from freezing snow to a hot, steaming bowl of soup. Without any script, record an ad-lib explaining to a friend why Campbell's Soup hits the spot on a freezing day. Let the meaning flow from inside.

4. Invigorate Drill: The Digital Mirror
The copy has returned. Invigorating is bringing fresh energy, facial animation, and the illusion of the first time without forced strain ("Don't try. Just do.").

5. Resonate & Coaching Takes
Take 1 of 5 (Max)
Resonating means striking a responsive chord with a specific human being. Announcing is an intimate, one-on-one conversation.

Dr. T's Studio Tip: You are in full command of the studio here! Record your read, listen back with the player below, and feel free to re-record as many times as you like until you have a take you are proud of. When satisfied, submit it for AITA's final review.
